AWS RDS instance events
Welcome to CloudAffaire and this is Debjeet.
In the last blog post, we have discussed performance insight in AWS RDS instance.
In this blog post, we will discuss AWS RDS events. We will also configure email notification on RDS events.
AWS RDS throws an event if a specific change, for example, RDS instance restart occurs. AWS RDS groups these events into categories that you can subscribe to so that you can be notified when an event in that category occurs. You can subscribe to an event category for a DB instance, DB snapshot, DB parameter group, or DB security group.
Next, we are going to configure event notification for our RDS instance.
Prerequisites for this demo:
- AWS RDS instance.
- AWS SNS topic with a validated subscription.
AWS RDS instance events:
Step 1: Login to AWS console and navigate to ‘RDS’.
Step 2: In the navigation pane, click ‘Event subscriptions’ and then click ‘Create event subscriptions’.
Step 3: Provide a name to the subscription and select SNS topic.
Select your AWS RDS instance and event type for which the event will be triggered and finally, create the event subscription.
Our new event subscription created successfully.
Next, we are going to restart our RDS instance which will in turn trigger availability events and send SNS notifications.
Step 5: Navigate to ‘Databases’ and select your RDS instance. From ‘Actions’ click ‘Reboot’.
Step 6: Navigate to ‘Events’.
Note: Two events have been triggered due to instance restart, if you check your SNS subscription mailbox, you will find two SNS notification.
