How to get the size of an S3 bucket in AWS?

There are multiple ways to get the total size of an S3 bucket. You can get the size of the object recursively and sum all the object’s sizes to get the total disk space used by your S3 bucket. But if your bucket is having millions or perhaps billions of objects then this becomes a nightmare.

Today I will show you the most efficient way to get the total size of an S3 bucket irrespective of the number of objects the bucket is holding. You can get the total disk space usage of an S3 bucket by looking into the CloudWatch Metrics for S3 which contains two matrices namely “BucketSizeBytes” which will provide you the total size of an S3 bucket and “NumberOfObjects” which provide you the total number of objects stored in your S3 bucket. Let me show you how you can get this data.
